Uber, a ride-hailing service, is reportedly in talks to sell its flying taxi business, Uber Elevate. Negotiations are being held with Joby Aviation, which was reported to have been invested by Toyota in January this year. Joby Abiation has agreed to partner with Uber to operate a flying taxi service. An Uber spokeswoman declined to comment, but a formal announcement is expected within the next few weeks.
Uber Elevate launched a helicopter transportation service in New York in July 2019 under the name Uber Copter , but has suspended operations earlier this year due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection. Uber Elevate’s goal of autonomous drone personnel transport services will probably not be put to practical use in the next few years.
Uber is also in talks to sell its self-driving technology development division to Amazon-sponsored Aurora, while acquiring Food Delivery Postmates and sharing human resources with Uber Eats.
